Worst Earthquake in US History
Good Friday, March 27, 1964
Good Friday, March 27, 1964-Alaska. Here are some rarely seen personal photographs of the damage they witnessed
Lovely wife, in the womb at the time, and her family were stationed there.
Her mother, "Mamma Bear", was on her way into town in the family Jeep.
All of the sudden she hit what she thought was a huge pot hole.
It through her into the ditch.
Shaken, but not injured nor damaged she drove out of the ditch and on into town.
Much to her surprise town had changed!
Parts of town had been raised as much as 30 ft.
Some had been lowered as much as 12 feet.
It registered 9.2 magnitude.
The most powerful to hit the US. The second most powerful in history.
Yes, a Tsunami was generated.
Particularly in Kodiac and Valdez
Remarkably only 131 deaths were reported.
Parts of the ground liquified.
